Brief Description:  Elevator Layout

Today I started laying out the elevator. I was going to finish the rudder, but I needed a tool to help drill the bushings in the tail post and it will be here in a few days.

I got the stabs out and made sure the angles of the end ribs matched. Then it was all measuring and getting the curve of the aft portion down. I use a simple steel strip for the radius areas shown on the plans. One thing I found unbelievably helpful was this piece of window frame I had lying around from (I think) a Champ. It was like a giant french curve! There was one sweet spot where it lined up perfectly from spar to tail on the inside of the elevator...no guesswork and the longest stretch by far without any plans guidance.
