Brief Description:  Landing Light - Left Wing (Part 1)

I put it off long enough - time to make the big cut in the wings for the landing light lens. I plan to install LED landing and taxi lights but I ordered the basic, round-lens landing light mounting kit from Duckworks. It consists of a bracket that fits between 2 ribs inside the wing, a mount which allows you to attach a landing/taxi light to the bracket, a plexiglass lens, and all of the attachment hardware and templates to install the kit.

Started by using the template to mark the part of the leading edge of the wing to be cut. Tried using a Dremmel tool with a cutoff wheel but the fiberglass wheels wouldn't hold up to the alluminum and the metal ones weren't making any progress. Solution - get a bigger hammer :) I drilled several holes in the middle of the area until I had enough room to get a pair of metal snips and then started taking small bites, being careful not to deform the metal as I got close to the edges. Then I took a file and a scotchbright wheel and finished the edges to the line.

Since I can only attach 3 pics per log entry I split todays entry into 2 parts.
