Brief Description:  Rocker arm/feet issues

There is a need to trim a few head studs so that the rocker arm assembly is not contacted. This requires wrapping the engine to assure no debris makes its way where it would not be welcome. A careful use of the Dremel tool made this a simple issue.

Had an issue with the alignment of the rocker tip (feet) in that they were considerably misaligned to the valve stems. These swivel pads are not to be in perfect alignment as they are designed to sit indirectly upon the stem. Two arms per side were way off-pic 2.

Sent some pictures to SONEX tech support and they suggested disassembling the arms and moving the shims around until the fit was adequate. Note; this time I had a tech support reply within a single business day.

It took many attempts but ultimately I was able to get the prescribed alignment.

Next I measured for pushrods. Had to trim all of my rods; this is expected. An inexpensive tubing cutter did perfectly. However, trying to heat the rod and get the tip inserted proved difficult. Ultimately, I fould a good method but felt like I overheated one of the rods; not to mention the over pounding I had to do. I therefore had to order a new set; you can not buy just one. Anyway. I got to practice on a few others.
Hints: Make sure your cuts are smooth and deburred. Bore out a 4x4 chunk of wood to use as a support for the pushrod -this will keep you from setting your hands on fire and keep the rod from bending. Heat up the tip short of red hot. Do not use a rubber mallet but use steel on steel. Tap it home. It takes a bit of force. Kinda fun in the end.
