First thing I did with the lens is put tape on it to protect it from scratches. Then I cut the edges on the band saw using my other lens for a template. Next I drilled and clecoed the mounting strips on the wing skin using the same locations for the other wing. Then I fit and trimmed the lens repeatedly until it fit in between the brackets.
I was going to make the backing ring but discovered I'm out of .032 aluminum. I ordered another sheet. I can't do any more to the light instillation now so I thought I'd start on the port hole covers. Then I remembered I need to paint the rings first before I can install the nut plates but I want to wait and paint everything at the same time. So then I thought I'd maybe start of the fuel tank straps but a short time later I got distracted and never did get back to it...
First the distractions of spring and now the distractions of summer!
