Brief Description:  Dimple port flanges, landing light backing ring

I tried to reproduce a kink in some scrap to practice fixing it. If was a little frustrating because I couldn't even recreate it on purpose. I worked the kink out of the skin as best I could. Most of it came out but there's still a low spot. I'll have to apply a little filler before painting. It really bugs me and I can't help but keep glancing at it. I guess I'll eventually forget about it.

On to business - I removed enough protective cover around the port hole areas to dimple the 3/16" holes. I deburred all the holes around the port and on the flange then dimpled them. I re-clecoed the flanges and screwed on the covers.

After I was done with all the inspection ports I worked on the landing light lens some more. I mounted the nutplates on the backing plate. I was able to use the K1000-06 nutplates. I deburred and dimpled the 6-32 holes in the skin then the 3/16" holes then mounted the lens back in the leading edge. When I mounted the lens the first time using only clecos there was a small gap right at the leading edge between the skin and the lens. I considered putting a screw in that location but I decided to wait until my first fitting with screws. When I mounted it this time with screws it pulled everything tight so there was no gap.

The inspection ports and landing light are done for now until riveting. I'm really happy with the way the landing light has turned out. It looks as good as I had hoped for. The landing light has always been one of the unknowns for me. I really didn't know where I was going to go with it from the start. Finally something to feel good about again!
