Brief Description:  Sandblast and primer wing steel parts

Well I was going to try to epoxy primer all my wing steel parts and some of my small ribs that still need it. It ended up taking me longer than I figured to sandblast the steel parts. My compressor couldn't keep up so I could only go for a few minutes then have to wait. After cleaning up the steel parts I needed to primer them as soon as possible - I couldn't wait until the next day so I didn't have time to prep the aluminum parts.

The first thing I did was label some of the matching parts "left" and "right". I blasted the small parts first then the bigger parts. I don't have a blasting cabinet but I've decided it would be a good investment. I did lay out some Tyvak to try to recover some of the blast medium. I did it while wearing shorts and a t-shirt since it was pretty warm out. Needless to say I took a shower as soon as I was done!

After the parts were blasted I cleaned them with Acetone. I hung the parts from a wire and sprayed them while they were suspended. I sprayed 3 light coats. I used the same mix as I did when it was colder. I probably should not have thinned it as much - I had some runs.

I was going to spray these outside but it was too windy. I set up a paint booth in the garage so that I could open the door right away and vent it out.
