Brief Description: Made part# SNX-F08-08 using my milling machine.
Today I made the flap detent angle, part# SNX-F08-08. This part has a fairly complicated pattern to it and at first I was not sure how to approach this. After some thought, it seemed to me the best way to cut this out was to use my vertical mill.
First I cut out the angle blank to the correct overall dimensions. I then made a cardboard template of the cut pattern from the plans. After tracing the pattern onto the blank with a fine-point sharpie, I used a 1/8" end mill on the milling machine to cut out the pattern. I have a feeling I will be using the milling machine many times during this project.
I cut some of the corner radii on the bandsaw then I cleaned up the rest with a hand file. I marked out the pilot holes and drilled them with the drillpress. Once over with the scotch-brite belt and the part was done.
Template I made from the plans.
Cutting out the pattern on the vertical mill.
Finished part looks an awful lot like the plans drawing!
