Brief Description: Made troughs for alumi-prep/alodine
Bought 10" pressure caps in PVC for 10" PVC pipe. I used waterheater pan drain fittings for the ends along with 3/4" pvc ball valves for drains cocks. The 10" pipe is 6'2" in length to allow for any long items to be completely submerged. After glueing the end caps on, I used a skill saw to cut the pipe in half. I then fabricated the base mounts to hold each half. I plan on setting them on the mobile base I used to get the fuselage to the shop on. The total height is 2" above a standard 5 gallon bucket. This allows me to put the parts in each for the process of alumi-prep then Alodine. I've determined that 10 gallons of solution will submerge any needed part so far. The process is pretty simple, submerge scotch brite scuffed parts in Alumi-prep for 5 minutes. Then, Remove, rinse off with water, place in 2nd trough of diluted alodine for 3-5 minutes. Rinse off, let dry. They have a light golden color. This is the first step in corosion proffing the aluminum. The plan afterwards is to apply the Sherwin Williams P60-G2 Wash primer. When parts are completed to the last an final assembly mounting, I plan on Epoxy priming befor painting with single stage top coat. Final brand of top coat paint to be determined in the near future.
