Drill the hinge to the upper cowling. Installed the cowling on the airplane and started drilling the upper half of the hinge from the front at both sides. The hinge pin was installed so the upper half of the hinge was reasonaby stiff. I needed to hold the hinge by hand to the cowling only for the first 5 drill locations. I clecoed eack hole as I drilled toward the back. There is a 1/16"th gap between the cowling halfs. If this turnes out to be too much I can use filler to narrow the gap before I rivet the hinges to the cowl. The paint probably fill some of this gap. The plans show 1/16"th gap
