Brief Description:  Install Magnetic Compass

I decided to install the Magnetic Compass slightly right of the glare shield center line. There are three bolt holes (AN3) on the compass and all three are inaccessible from the top using an angle drill. Because the body of the compass is made of plastic match drilling would not be advisable. The body of the compass does not allow enough room to mark the screw locations on the glare shield accurately. I decided to make a template depicting the accurate location of each bolt hole. I used a sheet of paper, taped it on the bottom of the compass and marked the holes by moving the pencil back and forth until the location of the holes clearly showed on the paper (old kid stuff). After this, I transferred the bolt hole locations to an aluminum sheet. Punched the exact center of each hole and drilled the 3 mounting holes. I got perfect alignment with the compass holes. I used this as a template to drill the glare shield. I got perfect alignment with the compass holes. Next step tomorrow will be to drill a hole for passing the cable for the 12V power supply.
