After reviewing Larry Winger's flap layout and establishing sight line dimensions from his spreadsheet I decided to perform a couple of experiements on my brake to verify my flange and web lengths would match the drawing dimensions. I also wanted to compare the lengths when inserting the strips from the front of the bend plate vs from the rear of the bend plate.
Inserting from the rear: 272mm DL strip laid out with sight lines at 50 + 100 + 80 yieled respective flange/web dimensions of 51.4, 99.5, 80.5 and 43.8. Sum = 275.2 Inserting from the front: 272mm DL strip wtih sight lines at 25 + 90 + 100 yielded 26.2, 90.0, 102.0 and 58.9. Sum = 277.1
Cannot figure out why the strip fed from the front has a summed length that is about 2mm longer that the summed lenghts of the strip fed from the rear. Could be tolerance stack in measurements I suppose.
Pulled out 2 sheets of 0.025" and cut 2 identical blanks of 2080mm x 776mm
Laid out the bend sight lines on one sheet for installation from the rear of the brake. Plan to lay out and drill all of the rivet holes - through both blanks - before bending. Once the bends are complete I'll be ready to match drill all the ribs. This should save at least a couple hours of redundant layout and drilling time.
