Received the 25' of 0.032" safety wire I ordered from Aircraft Spruce which was promptly put to use on the elevator and trim tab hinges. Twisted at approx. 7 turns per inch on the hinge pin center lines so the braid will pivot about it's axis and not damage surrounding aluminum surfaces. Ends were snipped down to about 5/8" then sharp edges ground off.
Riveted trim tab hinge and stabilizer hinge in place completing the elevator riveting. I am leaving the servo actuator off so it can be stored indoors until final assembly. Also decided NOT to rivet the elevator to the stabilizer so that assembly of the stabilizer to fuselage can be performed per the assembly guide.
Used my edge bevel tool on the servo cover plate. Got this idea after doing a walk-around inspection of Jay Meinen's factory-built 650 last Saturday at Wayne Hooks Airport. This will ensure that the edges sit nice and flush to the skin. This same process was used on numerous skin edges including the stabilizer to fiberglass tips.
Note: The factory 650 had a trim tab that was appended to the elevator rather than cut into it. Not sure why the plans/kit versions don't use this method as it looks much simpler.
