Brief Description:  Bent Strip and Trim Tab

Files ends of elevator horns to match the radius of the mating bent stip. Located top and bottom holes on Bent Strip to horns, match drilled and clecod in place. Match drilled 3 holes in strip to horizontal member.

Did not like the looks of the creases in my prior two Trim Tabs so decided to make a third. The first two bends were made the same as on 12/4. The front web of the trim tab is about 1mm taller than spec but the profile of the tab is a perfect match with the elevator. Drawing shows bottom surface of tab to be slightly above elevator. Using standard tolerances I will assume that there is no fit or aerodynamic compromises in this deviation.

From the first two parts I learned that a gentle radius would be required on whatever was used to clamp down on the top skin to avoid creating a crease. My solution was a length of 2" PVC with the 1-1/4" steel tube inserted for stiffness. For the final bend three clearance holes were drilled in the PVC to allow clamp access. Clamping down to pieces of 3/16" board resulted in a trailing edge with proper radius and top skin with a very slight bend which straightens out when pulled down the final few millimeters to mate the top tab.

Holiday note: Went with the family to a tree farm and picked up a nice fir which my wife and daughters decorated while I was working on the outside lights. A nice, full balanced day of family and personal liesure.
