Spent the first half of the day taking apart and rebuilding the #4 baffle. There has been a lot of discussion on the web about the weight of the oil cooler causing this baffle to crack and fail.
We don't want that to happen. I took the lower flange from the Van's provided panel and cut out a "sister" panel to reinforce the corner. Once that was riveted in, I reworked the aluminum tube cross brace strut. With both these reinforcements in place, the #4 baffle is unbelievably solid, rigid and reinforced. It is going nowhere.
With everything apart, I took the time to respray everthing with a heat resistant gray primer. 3 coats later, it looked really good.
I reinstalled everything, and I am now pretty happy with the whole deal.
