Brief Description:  Rivet lower half of boot cowl.

Riveting the lower boot cowl went well without any hiccups, and is an exciting part of the build to finish.

I was happy with the efforts I made to paint the rivet heads to match. It is a small detail, but I think it really adds to the fit and finish perception. I did find that taking a few minutes to remove the excess paint by touching the rivit body to the side of a scotch brite wheel was beneficial.

I have everything ready to rivet the upper portion of the boot cowl in place except for some vinyl for the bottom of the panel glare shield, which is still in shipping.

When I first tried out my intercom I noticed I could hear the clicking of the transponder through my headphones. I suspected that this was due to the transponder antenna, which was just hanging loose from the end of the antenna wire, being located only about 6 inches from the shielded audio wires. I was expecting that once the cowl was in place the metal cowl would shield the audio cables from the antenna emissions, which I was relieved to learn was exactly the case.

Glenn had warned me about the transponder setting off the ELT on his plane, which required him to move the ELT from under the passenger seat to under the forward baggage compartment. Despite his repeated advice, and the eventually wagering of a generous piece of peach cobbler, I was persistent in keeping my ELT under the passenger seat.... I was also pleasantly relived to learn that with the cowl in place the transponder has not set off my ELT and it is looking like I am going to be collecting on that delectable peach cobbler - Whoop Whoop! Both Glenn and I mounted the transponder as far from the ELT as possible, above the pilots left foot. I think the only difference we have is that I ran my antenna straight down to a location in front of the left rudder pedal, and I think Glenn might have located his antenna in front of the RH main landing gear.
