Brief Description: Fixing the door strips. - Part 1.
In assembling the doors I found that the lower strip that holds the window in does not fit. This is a known problem, and some others have seem to have had better luck by not shrinking the door fabric past the point of just removing the wrinkles. In my case I had performed the full three step shrink process, which appears to pull the door frame cross member below the window out of place.
I also found that the lower inner and outer strips did not match. If I lined up the rivet holes on one end of the strip, the opposite ends were about 1/2" out of alignment. This also made the inner strip buckle slightly as it was attached to the window lexan.
To rectify these issues I decided to cut a new set of inner and outer strips. This process is also documented in extensive detail in the Rans Clan forum site. (ransclan.com) and is the following posts.
I first ordered 6 pcs of .020" thick 6061-T6 from Online Metals.com.
The outer strip matched the holes in the window lexan, so I started by using it as a template to transfer drill the holes in the new strip material.
To Be Continued. To be continued.
Lower window strip does not rest on frame.
With one end of the strips lined up, this is the mis-match at the other end.
