Brief Description:  Cut and Buff Lessons.

Tonight I tried out the cut and buff procedure on one of my test panels.

It seemed to take forever to do this little panel. I did have some facilities trouble as I didn't have the correct 1500 grit sand paper, so a trip to the auto parts store was necessary, my shop light started throwing out sparks and quit working, so I had to finish it in the dark, then I learned I didn't have 2000 grit sandpaper to bridge the gap from 1500 to 3000 on my DA, etc....

Nevertheless, it seemed like it took a long time to knock down the slight orange peel I had. I am not sure why, but maybe I just need to run my DA faster. Maybe the process just takes that long. I will make some phone calls tomorrow to get some advice.

In the end it turned out pretty well, and it would certainly be a superb looking job. You can see where I didn't quite get all the orange peel out, and you can also see a few of the sanding marks I didn't get out, but these things are only noticeable if you get down and look at the glare of the lights in the reflections.

All in all I would call the evening a success.
