Brief Description: Tapes for the LE Wrap and Root Ribs.
Installed the tapes for the root ribs, end ribs, and leading edge wrap. I also installed a patch around the fuel cap ring.
* The factory plane has the metal ring around the fuel cap simply riveted in place and then painted. I have seen that this plate will lift from the wing very slightly (about 1/16") between the rivets, and I have seen where others install a fabric patch over the ring. I wanted the fabric to wrap around the ID of this ring, and glued to the bottom side. I had the impression this would leave a nice radius around the opening. I was not happy with the overlap I achieved on the bottom, so I ended up putting a patch on the bottom to help hold the fabric in place.
* To keep paint off the scupper and fuel cap I assembled several strips of overlapping masking tape on a sheet of wax paper, cut it out in a circle to match the opening in the root skins, removed the wax paper and stuck it in place before I installed the ring.
* Then I riveted the rings in place, and finished gluing the patch to the root skins. I was happy with the results.
