Brief Description:  Installed Pitot Tubing.

Ran the pitot tubing from the pitot tube to the root end of the wing.

Comments:

* Since I am using the Dynon pitot tube to have the angle of attack feature, I will not be using the stock rans static port which is a part of their pitot tube. The Dynon pitot tube does not have a static port, so one must be provided. I have researched, pondered, discussed, and debated the various methods of static port options, and I have decided that I am going to take my static pressure from underneath the front baggage compartment. I plan on mounting my ADAHRS in that area, and in my mind it appears to be an area relatively protected from moving air and fluctuating pressures due to wind flow during flight.

* I had a Safe-air 1 kit which provides the fittings to connect the plastic tubing to the pitot tube aluminum outlet tubing. I am thinking that these connectors, a few elbows, and the blue and green tubing is all that I will be using out of the Safe-air kit, and in hindsight it probably would have been much more economical to purchase just these components. The kit provided tubing could also be used if the color coded tubing was not desired.

* The manual indicates the tubing should be wrapped with tape and tied to the ribs with safety wire. I decided to make some flat plate brackets that would secure the tubing and keep it from rubbing on the sharp edges of the ribs. I ordered the material (1/16" x 1.25" aluminum) and 1/4" ID grommets from Mcmaster-Carr. The tubing was tight in the grommets and at first it was difficult to get inserted, but then I read that rubbing alcohol will work as a lubricant. - I couldn't believe how well it worked! Just keep the tubing slightly wet and you can pull it through all 6 grommets with ease.
