I went into the shop and continued to work on the lower right side of the firewall Skybolt flanges. I had to complete fitting the two flanges that will hold the bottom of the cowl. Once again I would suggest that anyone building an RV-8 at least consider buying four Skybolts to attach the lower cowling because the time installing them will be rewarded by speedy on/off access. The hinges can just kind of be a pain in this area.....just saaaayyyyiiiinnnn.
I removed three rivets on each side in order to match drill the locations into the flanges. I set the flanges in and spaced them cleko clamping them in place.
After a final double check of the distance between tabs and the 1/4 inch offset on the firewall face, I had everything in place so it was time to matchdrill the flanges.
I began walking through from the bottom flanges and working my way up. I use extra clamping such as large cleco clamps and vise-clamps as I was match drilling each flange to make certain there was no flange movement while drilling.
It takes a little more time to do these than a lot of other match drilling of other parts.....but my process is working well.
