Brief Description:  Wheel Pant Work

Well the first weekend since being home and I got both Rob and Ralph offering to come over to lend a hand on the gear fairings. Rob came about noon and Ralph a little later.

The plan was to get the lines drawn on the concrete from the centerline of the fuse and then get the fuse jacked up and level. Well it took us a majority of the time just getting the fuse in place and everything marked. Then we had to decide how to raise the main gear off the ground. We settled on using my lifting straps on the engine mount and using the hoist to lift the fuse.

Everything was going smoothly. We snapped a line on the airplane centerline. We then got the the strap around and lifted the airplane. Next we began to get the fuse leveled in pitch and roll. The problem was things didn't seem right. The right side landing gear was 3" higher than the left side. Rob and I were scratching our heads to try and figure out what was really wrong.

Finally I took my 4' framing level and put it across the airplane....bingo...the bubble was showing that it wasn't level and the electronic level was giving us a very skewed reading!!!

Re-zero the electronic level AGAIN for about the 5th time and now it agreed with the other level. There was no problem with the airplane. Both levels worked fine and now agreed...duhhhhh!
