Brief Description:  SuperFil on Lower Cowl

In my effort to keep the fiberglass moving along I worked the lower cowling tonight.

I have changed my method on the lower cowling as opposed to the upper cowling. On the upper cowling I used only Smooth Prime which is a primer/filler with a lot of pigment in it that works to fill the imperfections and dreaded pinholes in fiberglass. It took a solid six coats of smooth prime to get the job done....may need just a bit more in some places but in essence it is done and ready for a coat of epoxy prime. The problem was getting the divots filled that form in the center of the honey comb pockets in earlier logs.

To avoid using as much Smooth Prime material and labor I decided to use the SuperFil that I used on the canopy skirt to fill the honeycomb divots and then smoooth prime over it after sanding. So far the SuperFil is laying down pretty well sometimes using just a touch of heat in order to get it to flow a little better. I like that it is an epoxy based material.

So I got through 3/4 of coating the cowl and ran our of the SuperFil in these jars and it was time to call it a night anyway....will see how it looks in the morning.
