I was able to get out in the shop and get to the cowlings in order to sand the edges outside to get the 1/16 inch gap between the edges established. So taking the top cowl outside while it was still light I used the permagrit sanding blocks and the 3' long homemade sanding angle to get the gap established using the lines I drew the night before.
By the end of the session the top cowl has the gaps completely done and the bottom cowl just needs the firewall edge completed.
