Brief Description:  Sand Micro on Landing Gear Fairings

Settled in for a long session of micro sanding last night. I put the micro on fairly thick as I wanted to get the surface level of the shallow waviness that came from laying up the fairings initially.

I used 150 grit sandpaper and wet sanded them in my double wide utility sink. Wet sanding negates the dust factor and keeps the sandpaper flushed of the micro residue. It is a rather mindless activity so I put on some music and just went through the tedious process of sanding and shaping the micro on the fairing. After completing all four of the fairings with the 150 grit sandpaper, I went over the fairings with 220 grit. The fairings need more micro or SuperFil on some small areas after which a little sanding can be completed......then they will be ready to prime.

One of the occupational hazards of a 2.6 hour sanding session is that the sandpaper can rub your skin raw as it did on the right thumb....ouch!!! I felt it getting a bit raw and was going to wrap it to stop the abrasion....but I didn't want to stop to do so. Thus my thumb nerve endings are yelling at me and chastising me for not protecting them! The worst part is that is my "hitch hiking thumb".
