Brief Description:  Reinforce Wing Tip Trailing Edge

My wife was on a Zoom call in the upstairs office so I decided to head out to the shop to work the wingtips (since the compressor can make a lot of noise when it comes on in the basement).

It has been a while since I have done some fiberglass work so I pulled the supplies out to the shop and started setting things out. I set the tips on a bench and using old wire I supported them upright using the electrical conduit pipe that is supported by the garage door rails (which is what I also use to hang painted parts for drying). With the tips set in place I got the ingredients in order and started mixing.

I laid a piece os wax paper on the bench behind the wingtips and laid out pieces of glass cloth that I would be laying on top of the bead of FLOX. Fortunately I received some large syringes from my friend Dr James "The Hypo" Novak DVM that would be of great assistance for getting the FLOX in the tight corners of the trailing edges. I modified the syringes by cutting off a little of the tips and then drilling the hole to 1/8th inch with a #30 drill. I also used some 1/4 inch nylon tubing on the end to extend the syringe reach.

The process was the same for both wings......mix epoxy, lay some on the fiberglass, then add FLOX, load the syringe, lay down a good bead of FLOX, then lay the fiberglass on top and pat it down with a small rod....which was the most difficult part!

Got the trailing edges done and curing!
