Brief Description:  Flaps, Ailerons, and Electrical #1

Had a good work crew at the hangar today. Another windy day but it was a lot warmer than it has been. Rob and I showed up around midday.

Rob once again began working the flaps. Having finished the trimming of the inboard edge he moved on to the fitting of the rod clearance hole as well and the inboard rod bearing connection point. The rod for actuating the flaps is a little bit finicky. You have to use washers and clearance the holes to get everything to work just right. It took a tedious time to get it all done but he did, using the template from the left side to mark the right side. Also you better have a long thin wrench to tighten the flap rod end....mine has a nut that keeps it on.....I don't know if they changed it to a nutplate...but not easy to get to!!! We were able to get the rod end attached and torqued after we found the right wrench and got the process down.

I was working on the ailerons. Rob had rigged them last session but the travel stops needed to be made and set. Vans has a metal stop that they talk about in the plans.....it isn't very easy or of the best design....so many folks have taken on to using a piece of delron and placing it on the aileron attach bolt and using a diameter that will give the aileron up angle of 32/25 degrees and down angle of 17/15 degrees. I ended up using a delron piece of .70 that I made and it gave me an up angle of 29.3 degrees and a down angle of 16.2 degrees. That seems to be a sweet spot so I will leave it there.
