Brief Description:  Wheel Pants & Landing Gear Fairings

I focused on the wheel pants and the fairings again last night. The wheel pants had some slight mismatch where the front and rear halves of the wheel pants meet. To be honest some were so slight that they probably could have been ignored and would have been fine. There was two short spots that really needed some attention on the right wheel pant.

I started working on the left wheel pant. Rob lent me his "Dual Action Sander" (DA) as he said it would do a good job. I used it to sand down the rear half of the wheel pant to remove the slight variation in the match line. Then I took the heat gun and ever so slightly heated and reformed the lower area where the gear leg cutout was made in order to have the rear half meet up just right which the heat gun did the trick. That's all that was needed at the moment.

I went to the right wheel pant and the problem on this one was front half that was actually higher than the back half. The mismatch was pronounced enough that I decided to lay some glass along the two areas. Had I ground down the front half it would have made the fiberglass real thin....better to put a couple layups on the rear half. I also mixed some SuperFil and covered the rivets that were used to attach the brackets for the axle attachment.

Final task was to re-sand the SuperFil on the intersection fairings for the landing gear.
