Brief Description: Micro Landing Gear Fairings and Empennage Fairing
With the shaping of the fairings completed the landing gear fairings now move into the "slop em with micro" phase to work out the surface shapes and cover up the divots, pop knots, nooks, and crannies of the surfaces. Once again the upper (larger) landing gear fairings will require a little more work but they all have need for work.
I mixed a batch of micro that was thicker as on things like these the micro will tend to sag quite a bit if it is mixed too thin. I began to slather it on the fairings and ran out just as I had one more side of an upper fairing to complete. I mixed 3 epoxy and 3 hardener squirts....I guess four of each would have covered it. Anyway I whooped up another batch of single squirts and that was ample enough for finishing and had leftover.
Since I had leftover micro I went back outside and grabbed the empennage fairing and filled the cleco holes that I decided I would not be using as based on discussion with the Rob and Rick brain trust I decided to only use a total of 6 screws to hold the fairing in place. The fairing fits really well and those fasteners will be more than sufficient.
All is curing now and the sanding (lots of it!) will take place next!!!!
