Brief Description:  Upper Landing Gear Fairings

Worked the upper landing gear fairings tonight. Both sides had gaps that needed to be addressed.
The right fairing has more work and needed the top and the rear portion of the fairing to be reworked.

I removed the fairings after studying where I needed to attack the issues. I then prepped the fglass leg fairings with packing tape to protect them from getting epoxy on the areas where I would be making the layups.

I started with the left upper fairing since it would be the easiest. I scuffed up the area real good and using Goof-off I worked to get any clay residue removed. To my surprise the Goof-off did a pretty good job of getting rid of the clay. I cut a couple pieces of cloth that I would use to sandwich the flox I was applying to the area. I used the epoxy to wet the fglass pieces and then mixed the cotton fibers into the remaining epoxy to make some flox. I didn't need much flox and the remaining epoxy resulted in a more than adequate amount of flox to do the left fairing.

After applying the fglass and flox to the fairing I went over and clecoed the fairing back on the airplane and will allow it to cure. The right fairing was pretty much the same process except it needed attention on the back side. I stuck a piece of nylon sheet in the fairing split line to keep it from adhering together and walked away to let it all cure.

On another note.....I surpassed the 4000 hour mark with this log entry making it 4002 hours. No comment :0/
