Brief Description:  Empennage Fairing and Cowl Hinge Covers

I started off the session with a cleaning up and getting some tools put away from the last session.

I then sanded the places where I had placed some Superfil on the empennage fairing. My next step is to place some fiberglass and micro on the mating surfaces for the rudder and horizontal stabilizer to close the gaps. I really don't have big gaps but I decided that I am going to use less screws so it will take just a bit more to close the gaps.

I finally went back to the cowls and tackled the hinge pin covers that I purchased for hiding the cowl pins that will be used to hold the cowl halves together. I reviewed the instructions a couple times. I used the blanks to mark the perimeter on the left and right. They were roughed in but needed final tweaking. Using the dremmel tool I removed the fiberglass to get the openings close to size. I then used sandpaper to finish the openings.

Next I installed the blanks after placing packing tape on the back as a release agent. I then carefully placed them in their respective holes and taped them in place. As per instructions I mixed some micro and placed it around the perimeter of the backside of the blank plugs to feather the step that is produced by the blank. I allowed that to set up a bit while cutting up the four layers of glass to place over the back of the cover blanks.

I then placed the four glass strips over the back side of the left and the right cover blanks. Will allow that to cure overnight.
