Brief Description:  Modified Baggage Door

I have been pondering my baggage door. Rob and I worked on it the other day. The inboard front corner seemed to want to pop up about 1/16 inch when closed. We determined that it was due to the force of the door support piston when fully compressed. I measured the gas cylinder's force and it is a 15 pound gas spring. The door only weighs about 4 pounds......my theory is "more is better" usually. Anyway I perhaps could have gotten away with a 10 or 7.5 pound gas spring but that is neither here or there at this time.

I went on the IGS site for looking at the cylinders and made two calls. A place called AS Raymond has since bought out IGS so it has become convoluted. The customer support is not overly helpful but finally I found I could get a 7.5 or 10 pound gas spring.....it would take 4 weeks lead time and cost $175.00!!!!!!! That is 2.5 times the amount I paid for the one I have.....prices have skyrocketed.

Anyway I was going to delve into the door and see if I could do something to eliminate the problem anyway.....I just wanted to see the gas spring option....which it really isn't in my book. I played with the door and really looked. I realized there could be some structural modification between the door hinge and the door skin that had a "gap". I made up a shim tp fill the gap and put a single rivet hole in the door and spacer and riveted it in place. I installed the door and gas spring....no more spring.....mission accomplished!!!!

Had to leave to get medication at the pharmacy as my wife and I have both been sick (she has the worst of it!) and I need to try to knock this out of me!!!
