I had a discussion with one of my build mentors Rick yesterday about the vertical stab cap. I had used micro for covering the foam and laying the fiberglass. He has reams more expertise than I and he thought there may be a concern with cracking or even the foam potentially comint loose.
During our conversation I determinded to go back in and remove the foam and fglass around the perimeter and fill with cab o sil. Better to do it now than "wait and see" if it will be ok.
So I got my dremmel and using a cutting disc and carbide burr I removed good portion of foam and fglass around the perimeter of the cap. I then laid some cab o sil and two layers of fglass and some peel ply. I feel a lot better with the change.
I then removed the tail intersection fairing and laid down packing tape in preparation to get the fglass work completed on that fairing.
I appreciate that I have several folks like Rick Rob Jim that are willing to say something if they see something....and this is one time I am glad Rick took time to read my log.....I consider things like this to be a failsafe in the E/AB realm. Pity the builder that has no seasoned builder who is watching over a neophyte like us first time builders. Thanks Rick!
