Brief Description:  Aileron Trim......close to done.

Using cables for controls in building an aircraft is common, as a matter of fact I would find it hard to believe that there is a single aircraft that doesn't have a cable of some sort being utilized for actuating or controlling something.

Such is the case with my little RV8. I have used several cables to perform various functions and manipulate controls. Many times they snake through the aircraft structure fairly straight and simply connect to their intended control. The cables are teriffic control devices!

Installing the cable for the aileron trim was just a little more difficult than most of the others. The cable makes several turns over a relatively short distance. The stiffness of the cable made this a bit more of a challenge especially for measuring where the sheathing and the cable itself had to be cut. It also added a difficulty factor in getting the left console panel adel clap put in place on the panel and getting the panel positioned on the airframe.

Once getting the cable routed and set in place I began working the cable from the lever end. I had plenty of cable to practice bending the end according to the print. I tried bending it with the plier method but as usual it didn't work well.

I then went to my preferred method. Taking a 3/16 4130 rod that I had I drilled a hole in the center that was about .008 larger than the cable about 3/4 inch deep and champhered the O.D. Inserting the Boden cable the correct depth I bent the first bed the adjusted and bent the second bend......worked perfect! Same method I use for hinge pins.
