Another good work session. Riveted R606PP/717/710/405PD/704. While a lot of the rivets could be set using my weapon of choice (my pneumatic squeezer) there were some rivets that had to be bucked. Four rivets that posed a problem were the ones that attached R-710 to R-405PD. I had to reach them through a hole about 2.5 inches in diameter....after trying a number of bucking bars that I have in my small inventory, none would suffice. I looked in the bottom draw of my machinist tool box where I have a lot of metal scrap and found a piece of alloy steel that I worked a little on the belt sander and polish wheel.....the result was a perfect little bucking bar that worked fantastic!!! Vans gived the option of using blind rivets....but I only had 3 and there were 4 holes to rivet. So I decided to just figger out a way to buck them...they all came out great!!
After completing all the riveting, I installed and torqued the lead rudder counterweight. Next I fit the skeleton carefully into the rudder skin and clecoed. Next session will be a "riveting" experience!
