On the RV-8 QB (possibly the slow build as well), there is a cutout on the left side of the fuselage for the entrance step used on the RV-8A. The flap fairing covers this hole so that it is not visible, however it is another entrance point for cold air in the winter. Some builders leave the hole open, but I decided to close it up. Nancy won’t want cold air in the back with her! I taped a piece of poster board inside the fuse and traced the outline of the hole from the outside. Then I cut out the tracing and taped it to a piece of .016 sheet stock. Added .6” around the poster board and cut the aluminum to size. Drilled 5 holes in the fuse, taped the cover to the inside of the fuse and match drilled. Removed, cleaned up and primered. When I get to the point of adding the flap fairing, I will add some sealer and rivet the cover to the fuse. There will be one additional hole to secure the cover near the top, but it will also be common with the flap fairing, so will wait until fairing installation to drill the final hole.
