Brief Description:  Wire left wing tip-nav/strobe & antenna

I had to source some new molex connectors—found them at Fry Electronics. Turned out to be over an hour drive each way, but better than waiting 4 or 5 days if I had to order them. I soldered in a ground wire to the coax on the wing side of the wiring which I connected to the end rib. I forgot this on the right side, so that tip will have to come back off. The ground isn’t necessary for the lights to work, but per Aeroled, it is needed to help eliminate radio noise. I got the other molex barrels installed and fastened the connectors together. Let there be light! Now I’ve got green on the right side and red on the left—strobes also work in sync. I terminated the end of the RG400 coax with a male BNC connector and installed a female BNC on a short length of the coax for the wing tip connection. On the other end of the short coax, I combed out the braid so I could make a connection to the Archer NAV antenna. The coax braid goes to one terminal and the center wire of the coax connects to the other terminal. Next, I installed the wing tip and checked the lights again—they still work. Other than adding a ground wire, I’m calling the nav/strobe lights done. I received an EAA registration packet a few days ago—waiting on Van’s to send the bill of sale, then the paperwork can go to the FAA. I dropped the data plate off at a trophy shop today to get it engraved with name, model and serial number. I was planning on having the gas caps engraved also, but will wait to see how the data plate turns out.
