I edge finished, scuffed and primered all of the parts for the #1 baffle assembly. As soon as the primer dried, I began putting together the puzzle. I squeezed about half of the rivets and had to shoot about half with the gun. Everything went pretty well until the very last rivet. The rivet in the aft inboard portion of the conical gusset gave me fits. The first one clenched over—so did the second one. So, I tried driving the third one with the gun—turned out bad also. The problem with this area is that is very close to the crossing bend making it difficult to get square on the rivet. After the third try, the hole was getting wallered out enough that an AD4 rivet won’t work. I have some AD5’s, but I don’t see that they would work any better given the location. In the end, I dimpled and c/s for a #6 screw. There went my last chance for a Lindy! I’m so sick of baffles I could just spit rocks! And I still have the #2 assembly with the air intake to go—just can hardly wait to start on that.
