I used a handy little electric sander to sand down the aft couple inches of the canopy to open up the molecules for bonding with the carbon fiber. It is important to apply the fiber with resin within an hour after sanding because this is when the canopy surface is most ready to bond. If you have to leave then re-sand a little just before applying resin and fiber. You don't need to worry about using screws or fastners if you get a good bond between the canopy and carbon fiber/resin.
I applied the first layer of 3" carbon fiber tape with resin.
