Today I worked on getting the aft fuselage ready to drill and rivet. When I first got to the hangar my stuff had been re-arraigned. The guy working on my Cherokee needed to get it back in the hangar and the RV fuselage was in the way. So my wife and I spent about an hour moving work benches and parts around to make room for everything. After that it was back to building. The instructions are a little weak here, so I did not finish all the J channels completely. You have to remove about 11/16 th of the end so the channel can slide underneath the F-706 bulkhead at the front and the F712 bulkhead at the tail. I slide the channels out and used my dremel tool and finished the channels. After re-installing the channels the next step is attach the F-711 and F-712 and tail skin to the fuselage. It was much easier than I thought and just slide into place. The final step for the day was to double check all the skins were in place and then check to ensure the fuselage was level and plumb. I took several measurements with my level and had to shim here and there, but I got it level. Next I attached a plumb bob to the forward bulkhead and it was right on. I checked each bulkhead working towards the tail to ensure there was no twist. Perfect. Next job is to drill the channels to the skins, but that will be next time.
