I am somewhat limited on space. That may seem strange considering I am working at a hanger, but between the parked Cherokee, spare parts and completed RV components I can not leave the fuselage in one location. I needed to be able to move it over next to the wall of the hanger when I was not working on it. Because I am only working on the aft section it does not have the structural strength to be hooked up to an engine stand for mobility. Sawhorses were not going to work.
I had some old metal (soft steel) workbench legs that were not in use, so it seemed to make sense to make something that could work without spending a lot of cash. Using some angle aluminum and aluminum bar I cut sections of 24" to make lateral braces and bolted them to create two "sawhorses" that had two upright sections. The legs were already set up for casters, so a quick trip to Harbor Freight and I had two mobile platforms. An added benefit is the legs are adjustable from normal work bench height to six or eight inches taller.
As I continue to work on the aft section I can easily roll the fuselage out to work on it and back again. I believe I can support both the center section and aft section with these work platforms.
