Brief Description: Man Gear Fairings -- Installing the piano hinge
I trimmed all four lengths of piano hinge (two pairs) and marked rivet hole drill points at 1.5" intervals per the plans. I clamped the fairing into place onto the left leg, and clamped the hinge into place at each end. Then, starting at the top, I drilled through the fairing and into the hinge, clecoing each hole as I went along. The fiberglass fairing is translucent, so the drill point dots were easy to see.
With the first hinge drilled and cleco'd, I then removed the fairing, deburred the hinge, and countersunk the fairing holes for #3 flush rivets. I then riveted the hinge to the fairing (image 3).
