Brief Description:  Top Cowl Camlocs, part 1

For cowling attachments, I'm deviating from the Vans plans. They call for the use of piano hinges to attach the top and bottom cowlings to the firewall flange and to each other. Instead, I'm using Skybolt Camloc quarter-turn fasteners. These are a bitch to install, but once installed, they'll make cowling removal/replacement a ton easier.

First step: Space them along the top half of the firewall flange so I can attach the top cowling. I made reference marks on the fuselage skin to mark the center point of the fuselage and cowling, and the bottom-most points where the cowling bottom edge meets the firewall flange. Then, with the cowling removed, I spaced these scalloped camloc flanges along the firewall flange, clamped them, then drilled through the existing rivet holes.
