Brief Description:  Hanging the Engine part 1

Houston was a PRICELESS assistant as we hoisted the engine into place and mounted it to the firewall. Kelli was there as well, and gave us a huge hand. Snoopy supervised.

This is not easy, but the instructions in the Van's Firewall Forward kit were hugely helpful, as was engine install discussion threads from the Van's Air Force web site (thank you, Doug Reeves).

First we installed the lower pilot's side engine mount bolt and screwed it in finger snug. Then we did the same for the copilot side lower bolt (both images). Once those were in, we installed the top pilot side bolt.

At this point, the top copilot side bolt holes were not aligned at all. We then tightened down the 3 in-place bolts, which squeezed down the rubber engine mount cushions and aligned the 4th bolt hole (thanks to Dave and Glen at Marcair for enlightening me with this stroke of brilliance...it worked!).

I like image 1, because it looks like Houston is actually lifting and holding the 300-pound engine into place (pay no attention to that hook and chain dropping into the image from above).
