Brief Description: Installing the canopy skirts to the canopy frame
Using the white poster-board template I crafted, I traced the left and right canopy skirt outlines onto 0.045" sheet alclad. I cut them, sanded the edges precisely to the trace line, then edge-treated them.
Fitting the skirts to the frame required forming a roll curve on the forward edge. I also used my vicegrip-style edge beveller to make the edges sit flush against the frame. Once the fit was right, I clamped the skirts to the frame. Houston helped me hold everything in place as I drilled rivet holes through the skirt and frame.
Bear in mind: This is not part of the stock RV-7A kit or plans, but I want to cover the gap between the frame and the cockpit sill. Also, this skirt will hide the strip of foam insulation I will later apply to the canopy frame (this will make an air-tight seal between the frame and sill when the canopy is closed).
