Brief Description: Install balance arm
|
|
1. Positioned new aileron inboard side in stbd aileron.
2. Marked rivet line, drilled #40 holes to match existing rivet pattern, and clecoed in place.
3. Drilled bottom and front holes to mount rib.
4. Cut exit hole for balance arm with dremel, rounded corners, and filed edges.
5. Drilled mounting holes in balance arm with 3/16" bit on drill press.
6. Back drilled frontmost mounting hole through added rib.
7. Temporarily bolted arm in place with AN3 bolt.
8. Clecoed aileron shut, and remounted.
9. Centering aileron using retracted flap as a reference, checked balance arm height in wing.
10. Iterated steps 6-8, adjusting arm position, until height matched LAA dwg.
11. Marked arm position on added aileron rib.
12. Removed rib, reinstalled arm in marked position, and back drilled remaining mounting holes on drill press with 3/16" bit.
13. Taped other aileron rib to be added to rib already cut.
14. Back drilled arm mounting holes.
15. Reinstalled first rib with clecos, then slipped second in position.
16. Boplted balanced arm to ribs.
17. Drilled rivet holes for second rib with #40 bit, clecoing.
18. Opened all rib rivet holes with #30 bit.
19. Removed arm and ribs.
20. Drilled mounting holes for balast weights in arm, using 3/16 bit, on drill press.
21. Deburred all holes in added ribs and arm.
22. Primed ribs and matching surface of arm with zinc chromate.
23. Reinstalled arm and ribs clecoing in place.
