Brief Description:  Replaced battery

The past couple of months have been hectic, with holidays, colder weather limiting work, and electrical problems.

First, it developed that the led illuminated switches on the panel had a mode in which the ground to the LED indicators would short out the 12 volts. All the ground lines to these switches had to be removed.

All this had shorted out the battery, and ruined it. Successive attempts to charge it failed.Attempts to remove the battery revealed that there simply was not sufficient leverage to remove a battery in the present location. A decision was made to remove the battery, use a lighter weight unit, and relocate the battery mount.

To access the bolts holding the old battery mount, it was necessary to remove a closeout on the bottom of the aircraft. Since this closeout had holes in it to acommodate the old battery installation, it was decided to fabricate a new one. This was done, and the new unit drilled and painted.

The rivets and bolts holding the old battery mount were removed, along with the battery and mount. The new closeout was installed, using the same size rivets as those removed.

A mount for the new battery was purchased, and installed next to the master relay. Wiring was reorganized to acommodate the new location. Electrical checks were run, to verify continuity.

The continuity appears correct, but the master relkay no longer appears functional, so it is being replaced.
