Brief Description: Began fabrication of the Lightspeed mount
1) Using the cardboard template developed yesterday, transferring the pattern to a piece of .063 6061T6. 2) Cut out aluminum with rotary grinder, and belt sanded edges smooth. 3) Iteratively fit checked sheet, removing any interfereing areas. 4) Added "L" angles on the sides to transfer loads to existing structure, using avex rivets. 5) Made preparations to mount sheet froim beneath on the forward edge, affixing to existing aircraft structure. 6) 6-32 aircraft screws will be used to transfer the loads to the structure. 7) Attached "L" angle stiffner to back edge of sheet, to reinforce flexing under load. 8) Drilled mounting holes for first Lightspeed unit, and temporarily installed on spacers, to provide airflow under unit. 9) Ran out of long 6-32 screws, so final installation of first Lightspeed unit could not be completed. 10) Added 1.5 inch MS35206 screws to order list. 11) Build cage around first unit to support second unit. 12) Used "L" angles on side of cage to provide stiffness. 13) Used "L" angles on bottom of cage to affix cage to plate. 14) Drilled mounting holes for second unit. 15) Installation on hold until additional material is received.
