Brief Description: Fabricated cover for vacuum pump hole
When I removed the vacuum pump, it left a hole in the bottom of the engine. I thought I would easily find a stock Continental plate to cover this, since surely removal of the pump is an option. No such luck; one had to be fabricated.
1. Used vacuum pump gasket to trace outline on piece of 6061T6 .125. 2. I made two tracings, and started wit h two parts, figuring one would get scrapped, which it did. 3. Center punched mounting holes 8 places. 4. Pilot drilled with #40 bit, then opened to correct size. 5. Rough cut pieces on band saw. 6. ground to coarse fit, then filed to final fit. 7. Cleaned piece with weak acetic acid solution to remove grease and finger prints. 8. Primed with zinc phosphate primer. 9. Painte with Continental engine paint.
