Brief Description:  cleaned & painted rocker box covers

The rocker box covers were in pretty sad shape. New ones aren't free, and, so long as they are in place, should have minimal effect on engine operation. Thus, I decided to go a little further in cleaning them than I would for an internal engine part.

I did not do exactly the same process on each of the four covers, because the condition varied a lot. In general, though, there was a mixture of gease and oil, over rust and scale.

1. Removed grease and oil in ultrasonic cleaner with MEK bath.
2. Grit blasted interior and exterior, removing as much corrosion as possible in this manner.
3. Working on the worst of the ramining corrosion with Scotchbrite, and a rotary brush.
4. Soaked in rust disolving solution overnight.
5. Removed residue with ultrasonic MEK bath.
6. Primed with Zinc phospate, then painted with Continental color engine enamel.

The process was very time consuming due to the condition of the covers. I would not be too surprised if these require early replacement.
