Brief Description:  Laid up first layer to skirt halves

Well today I finally started to join the two skirts; this is the first layup of actual cloth. I sanded down the area for the scarf joint then installed the skirt and prepared the cloth. I have the strip of aluminum holding the skirt halves together so my plan is to glass the upper and lower part first then once cured lay up the middle section, then lay up a couple layers over the entire seam. The underside will get some layers as well.

I cut the cloth into ¼, 3/8, ¾ and 1” strips, I laid them up smallest to largest which left me a nice curve. I started the layers by putting down a resin and flox mixture that I worked into the tiny gap between the skirt halves. Then I laid up my cloth. Reading later I realized I should have laid up the wider cloth then worked up to the thinner parts but in checking with my glass expert he thinks either is OK since this is not a structural part.

I photo the next morning after removing the aluminum strip, I like! I will glass in the middle area today before I leave on a trip then I will do the final layer when I get back.
